They are among the 92 new members of 2026. Settis is an emeritus professor of Art History and Classical Archaeology at the Scuola Normale, where he was also a student, as was Prauscello, a professor at All Souls College (University of Oxford).

PISA, July 20, 2026. The British Academy, among the most prestigious cultural institutions worldwide, has elected 92 new members, including professors Salvatore Settis and Lucia Prauscello, who have become International Fellow and UK Fellow of the British Academy respectively. Settis, a former director of the Scuola Normale, of which he is an emeritus professor of Art History and Classical Archaeology, was an undergraduate student there from 1959 to 1963 and a PhD student until 1965. Prauscello, a fellow in Ancient Greek Language and Literature at All Souls College (University of Oxford), was an undergraduate student at the Normale from 1993 to 1999 and a PhD student until 2002. Settis is a Fellow of the British Academy in Art History; Prauscello is a Fellow of the British Academy in Classical Studies.

In the last 15 years, two other former students and emeritus professors of the Scuola Normale have also become members of the British Academy: in 2015, Professor Lina Bolzoni as an International Fellow in Literature and in 2014 Gian Biagio Conte, as an International Fellow in Classical Studies.

The British Academy is the United Kingdom's national authority for the promotion of the human and social sciences, with funding supporting new research studies at both national and international level. It boasts over 800 associates worldwide. Of the 92 new members elected in 2026, 58 are from institutions of the United Kingdom, 32 are from international institutions and 2 are Honorary Fellows.
