1) Access to the SNS

b) Before entering any SNS premises, sanitise your hands and wear a face mask, and, whenever possible or required, wear disposable gloves.

c) People entering the SNS premises may be required to have their temperature checked. Anyone who registers a temperature of 37.5°C or above will not be granted access and will be momentarily isolated and given the necessary instructions on how to manage the situation. Body temperature data will not be registered, but the person concerned may be asked to be identified. The information about the finding of a temperature higher than 37.5°C may be registered in case should it prove necessary to provide the reasons for having denied access to the SNS.

d) Access to the SNS premises is barred to anyone who has been in contact with people who tested positive for Covid-19 or coming from one of the risk areas identified by the WHO (https://www.who.int/).

e)
Any member of the staff who has tested positive for Covid-19 in the past will only be granted access to the SNS premises upon submission of a health certificate stating the negativisation of the patient as released by the local health authority.

f) The staff will always have to maintain an interpersonal distance of 1.8 m from one another, with the only exception of those work tasks requiring a shorter distance; in the latter case, in addition to face masks, staff will be required to use additional protective equipment (gloves, eyewear, overalls, cap, scrubs, etc.) in accordance with the guidelines laid down by scientific and health authorities.

g) Should the health authority adopt additional measures for preventing new outbreaks in the worst hit areas, such as testing of the staff, the employer will offer the utmost collaboration.

h) When commuting from home to work and from work to home with public transport, the use of a face mask is mandatory and it is highly recommended to wear disposable gloves or to sanitise hands before and after the commute. The use of sustainable individual or two-person means of transport, whenever possible, is highly recommended (bicycle or electric vehicles). When two people are sharing a car, the use of a face mask is highly recommended.

2) How to manage staff showing possible symptoms of an infection

a) Members of the staff are required to promptly and responsibly inform the employer of any flu symptoms experienced at work, taking care of always maintaining an adequate interpersonal distance with other people. The information will have to be rapidly shared with the “Servizio Personale” and isolation procedures will be immediately put in order in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the health authority and the presence of other people in the building.  The SNS will immediately inform the local health authority and the Covid-19 emergency numbers.

b)The Scuola Normale Superiore collaborates with the health authorities in tracing any “close contacts” of anyone who accessed its premises and tested positive for Covid-19. This is necessary in order to help authorities to issue the appropriate quarantine measures. During the investigation, the SNS might ask any close contact to leave the premise as a precautionary measure, in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the health authority.

c) Any member of the staff who is isolated and is not already wearing a face mask must be immediately provided with one and will be required to wear it at all times.

3) Individual protection measures

a) All members of the staff sharing a common space must wear a face mask. Face masks can be collected at the front desks of the Palazzo della Carovana, Palazzo del Castelletto and the NEST Laboratory upon communication by the Head of Office to emergenza.coronavirus@sns.it (for administrative staff only) of the necessity of sharing a space.

b) For work tasks requiring an interpersonal distance inferior to 1.8 meters, the staff will be provided with additional personal protective equipment, in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the scientific and health authorities.

c) Additional personal protective equipment will be provided upon risk evaluation of each specific task.

d) Every member of the staff will be provided with two face masks and two pairs of gloves to reach the work place and go back home, in accordance with ordinance N. 33 of 13th April 2020 by the President of the Regional Government of Tuscany. Packs of face masks and gloves can be collected at the front desks of the Palazzo della Carovana, Palazzo del Castelletto and the NEST Laboratory.

4. Precautions of personal hygiene

a) It is recommended to frequently and meticulously wash hands with water and soap during the work day.

b) It is mandatory that all those present in the workplace at the Scuola adopt hygienic precautions, with particular attention to hand sanitisation; the SNS will provide adequate detergents in all the toilets and at all entrances. Even gloves, for those who wear them, must be frequently sanitised same as hands.

Staff must abide by the guidelines laid by the authorities and the employer when accessing the Scuola, paying particular attention to social distancing (interpersonal distance of at least 1.8 m, with the only exception of particular tasks) and hand sanitisation. A correct behaviour in terms of personal hygiene is essential and cannot be replaced by any protocol of sanitisation of the workplace.
