The 2022 edition of the international ranking that analyzes the performances of 829 university institutes using data provided by the US firm Clarivate Analytics has been published. The second Italian university ranks 230th. “We have been rewarded because the actual size of the university is taken into account”.

Pisa, 17 May 2022. Scuola Normale ranks 27th in the world and is the only Italian university in the first 200 ones according to RUR World University Rankings, an international ranking system that analyzes data provided by the firm Clarivate Analytics, which has just published its 2022 edition.

The RUR ranking normally rewards small universities such as Scuola Normale, because several indicators are adjusted according to the actual size of the university. This year the RUR has evaluated the performances of 829 higher education institutions from 82 countries, looking at teaching, research, international diversity and financial sustainability.

Scuola Normale ranks respectively 10th in the world for teaching and 29th for research - which weigh 80% on the total score. It ranks first in Italy for both of these dimensions and it is among the 11 non-US universities that rank in the first 30 in the world; the first three are California Institute of Technology, Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The second Italian university that is included in the RUR World University Rankings ranks 230th.

“Last year Scuola Normale was ranked 23rd in the world in this ranking - say Professor Luigi Ambrosio and Angelo Vistoli, respectively Director and Vice-Chancellor for research, evaluation and ranking of Scuola Normale - but besides this physiological volatility, the excellent tradition in this ranking has been confirmed. We now await our performance in the sectoral rankings of RUR, which usually are also rather rewarding, such as as far as the field of Natural Science is concerned”.
